Chic Lit/Mystery
LETHALLY BLOND is a chic lit mystery within the circles of television stars and the Manhattan gossip publishing world. This novel is the fifth in the Bailey Weggins series. It can easily be a stand-alone without having read the preceding books.
Bailey Weggins works as a gossip magazine reporter. Due to her former relationship with actor, Chris Wickersham, she is asked by him to investigate the disappearance of another actor, Tom Fain. This is a little strange for two reasons. One, why would an up-and-coming television actor want a gossip columnist to investigate this disappearance? Secondly, why would the actor who has the main part want someone to investigate the disappearance of the person who originally had that part? Even with Bailey former success in investigating cases before, common sense dictates that this just doesn’t make sense.
However, this book is fluff. It is strictly fun and entertaining reading.
When Bailey isn’t investigating or writing, she maneuvers herself into romantic relationships with the new television star and friend, Chris Wickersham and her former love, Beau Regan who recently went to Turkey as a filmmaker. Unfortunately, while Beau was gone he only managed to send Bailey one letter. So who does she end up with? Read the book to find out. That is if Bailey figures it out herself.
The more Bailey investigates, the more trouble she causes for herself. She manages to get drugged, stalked, harassed, and almost was killed. The pace is fast, though a little unrealistic at time. The characters are unfortunately, the typical stereotypical celebrity personalities.
This is a predictable, but interesting read. There’s always the question about whether things will turn out as you predicted.
In real life, the author, Kate White, is the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan. She also worked for Glamour, Mademoiselle, Child, Working Woman, McCall’s, and Redbook. She has written numerous fiction and non-fiction books, both with a partner and by herself. LETHALLY BLOND is the fifth in the Bailey Weggins series.
